Historical trains on the cog railway

Climb toward new experiences on the steepest railway in the Czech Republic and enjoy the mountain landscape from the window of a historic train. Last year, the Tanvald–Kořenov line underwent extensive reconstruction, which allowed the return of the rack locomotives T 426.0. This year, you can therefore enjoy all of our attractions.

You can also look forward to the traditional Model Weekend, Blueberry Saturday, or Mulled Wine in the Engine Shed. There will also be other themed rides with accompanying programs.

At Kořenov station, you can visit the Rack Railway Museum and learn about the rich and often dramatic history of the Zubačka, or take a guided tour of the unique stone engine shed where our historic vehicles are housed. You can even take a look inside some of them. At Kořenov station, you can also enjoy a ride on the mining train or treat yourself to some refreshments.

A novelty for 2026 is the opening of a new exhibition dedicated to rack railway systems in the area of the mining railway, where the Rowanzug rack train with its 1904 locomotive has also been relocated.

HISTORIC RAILCAR RIDES

A ride on the historic railcar connects all our attractions, which you can experience together with our railcar guide. In Kořenov, they will gradually show you around or direct you to our individual exhibitions. During the ride, you have the opportunity to observe the driver at work and learn many interesting facts about the Tanvald – Kořenov – Harrachov line. You can then expand this knowledge in the Rack Railway Museum in Kořenov, which you can explore on your own. The museum is also linked to the Engine Shed exhibition, where you will find all of our railway equipment. This exhibition is again guided by the railcar conductor, who will provide commentary. Before returning to the railcar, don’t miss our mining train, which is not only for children but also for adults. It perfectly completes the whole trip to Kořenov and will put a smile on your face.

HISTORIC RIDES WITH THE RACK LOCOMOTIVE

After extensive repairs to the line, the unique diesel rack locomotives have returned to the front of trains on the Zubačka. Experience what makes the Tanvald – Kořenov – Harrachov route so exceptional. Together, we will ascend the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic with our rack locomotive T 426.0, known as “the Austrian Lady,” which conquers the steepest sections with the help of a cogwheel.

HISTORIC STEAM RIDES KOŘENOV – HARRACHOV

Come for a ride on a historic train and discover what it was like when steam still ruled the railways. Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Krkonoše Mountains, a ride over the 25-metre-high bridge across the Jizera River, and the 280-metre Harrachov Tunnel. The trains will be accompanied by conductors in historical uniforms. Leading the trains will be steam locomotive 312.3629, one of the last steam locomotives built by ČKD Prague.
